SURVIVAL DATA EXTRAPOLATION FOR COST-EFFECTIVENESS MODELING

by

BEN LI, PhD
Statistical Research and Data Science Center at Pfizer

Recipient of the Craig A. Saxton Clinical Development Excellence Award for the work he will be presenting on.

Abstract

Cost-effectiveness modeling helps demonstrate the overall benefits associated with a new treatment of a disease. One important factor in the cost-effectiveness model is the estimated survival benefits. Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) are the major source of reliable survival data. However, estimates of survival benefits are restricted to that observed directly in the RCTs. This talk will discuss how extrapolation of patient-level survival data collected from RCTs is conducted, following primarily the Technical Support Document on this subject issued by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

The advantage of finite mixture models over single parametric models is briefly discussed in situations where heterogenous data exist.

Biographical Notes

Ben is a statistician in the Statistical Research and Data Science Center at Pfizer. His primary responsibilities include providing statistical leadership and technical support to oncology related research projects using real world data. Ben has extensive experiences in drug development and regulatory activities. Before joining Pfizer, he worked as a statistician at Shire and NPS Pharma for more than 12 years, supporting the development of orphan drugs treating rare diseases such as short bowel syndrome and hypoparathyroidism.
