JOURNAL CLUB DISCUSSION

On June 11th, the MSK Biostatistics Service will host a round table discussion titled: Recent Controversy On P-values and Statistical Significance - Perfect Storm or Tempest in a Teapot? On June 12th, Dr. Zhigang Zhang will continue this discussion at the MSK Biostatistics Seminar Series. He will (1) summarize the round table discussion on June 11th; (2) open up related topics by discussing several other recently published papers pertaining to the usage of p-values.

The relevant articles are as follows:

    1. Retire statistical significance; Valentin Amrhein, Sander Greenland, Blake McShane and more than 800 signatories call for an end to hyped claims and the dismissal of possibly crucial effects. 21 MARCH 2019; VOL 567; NATURE; 305.     3. Redefine statistical significance: We propose to change the default P-value threshold for statistical significance from 0.05 to 0.005 for claims of new discoveries. Daniel J.
