EXPECTANCY EFFECTS IN ANTIDEPRESSANT CLINICAL TRIALS

by

Bret Rutherford, M.D.
Division of Clinical Therapeutics
New York State Psychiatric Institute

Bret Rutherford is a graduate of Harvard College and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. After completing a T32 Research Fellowship in Affective and Anxiety Disorders at Columbia, Dr. Rutherford received a K23 Career Development Award from the NIMH to study mechanisms of placebo effects in the treatment of depression. Dr. Rutherford's current research involves combining novel clinical trial designs with functional MRI to understand both the cognitive and neural mechanisms of placebo effects, with the hope that this understanding may be used to benefit the clinical treatment of patients as well as facilitate development of new treatments for depression.
